Defending the Double Wing

Hey Kansas coach,
Do any of the high schools in that area run the true toe to toe Double Wing Offense. Our big district rival runs the Double Wing offense not to be mistaken for the Wing T. They line up toe to toe splits and double team you playside and pull and lead the backside G & T. You can't blitz or penetrate a gap due to their splits. The big 3 for them are Power, Counter and trap. They added Rocket sweep this year so when I put 11 in the box(6-5) they run the Rocket sweep and killed us outside. That pitch is way past the Y on their sweep. If we played a 5-4 they ran power. We had a good season and finished 8-4 but I couldn't even come close to stopping that toe to toe Double Wing. I would greatly appreciate any advice or info. on how to slow it down.
Thanks,
CoachF

Forum: Football

We had the State's leading rusher in 2002 and had been to the playoffs in two of my three years as a head coach only to be beat soundly in the first round. As my coaching staff and I began preparing for the 2004 season, we came to the conclusion that for us to take our program to the next level, we must shore up the defensive side of the ball to have any chance of the success we had dreamt about. That is when I contacted Dave Humphers and enrolled our team in "The Championship Defensive Camp" in the summer of 2004. Not only did this camp improve our defense, but it also changed our teams mental approach to playing defense as well. Our team defense "swarmed" to the ball and put 6, 7, 8 hats on the ball, and guys were flying around the field on defense. This is the approach we learned at The Championship Defense Camp. We ended up the 2004 football season as the Central Section Division 2 Champions for the first time in East Bakersfield's 66 year history and I can honestly say my coaching staff and I give much of the credit to Dave Humphers and his staff that showed our kids how defense was supposed to be played. I am extremely proud that we have not had a season-ending injury throughout our history, as we insist that everyone hit above the waist and stay on their feet at all times.

If you are interested in bringing your team to the Championship Defense Camp in 2004, please contact Dave Humphers. We have a video to show your players, coaches, parents and administrators which will be mailed out to you immediately.

Yours in football,
Dave Humphers

What You Get From The Camp!
Defense

Learn the techniques to increase your Scoop & Score. High energy, fast tempo Offensive session.

Let your skill players go 7 on 7 in passing scrimmages.

Camp Testimonials

"Prior to the 2004 football season, during my first three years as a head football coach at East Bakersfield High School we had always been one of the top rated offensive football teams in the area. Obviously we will be back to this camp this summer and in the summers that follow. I would like to personally thank Dave Humphers and his staff of outstanding football coaches for their time and efforts in helping us fulfill a dream."
- Jim Maples, East Bakersfield HS; Bakersfield, CA

"Before coming to the CDC we were seldom, if ever, in the playoffs. Since bringing our program to the camp, we have been in our section's finals twice and have won almost 90% of our games."
- Greg Grandell, West Valley HS; Redding, CA
2004 North Section Division 1 Champions, 12-1

"Because of the CDC we have become one of the top defensive teams in the valley and have become known for our swarming defense. We will always go to the CDC."
- Stan Kanawyer, Reedley HS; Reedley, CA

"This is a great camp for our coaches. The coaches learn practice organization and tempo, drills and techniques. I would highly suggest that your whole staff, Varsity, JV, and Frosh participate. This will be our fourth year at the camp. We have taken over 90 kids each year."
- John Jessen, Bartlett HS; Anchorage, AK
from 0-7 in 1996 to 10-0 in 2002

"The tackling principles, circuit training, and the pursuit drills have become the basis of our defensive philosophy. We carry these principles over to every one of our practices. We have been the number 1 defense in our league two straight years... giving up 212 ypg, 12 ppg."
- Casey Marion, Hayward HS; Hayward , CA
from 3-7 in 1999 to 10-2 in 2002, 8-3 in 2003

"Acalanes had not been in the playoffs for 21 years. After coming to the CDC, we have been in the playoffs three consecutive years, and been in the semifinals twice, and the finals once."
- Ron Thompson, Acalanes HS; Pleasanton, CA
from 2-8 in 1998 to 9-4 in 2002, 8-4 in 2003

"The intensity of this camp is not matched by any other. Our JVs went 10-0 back to back years after going to the camp, and their defenses have dominated. The young kids by going to the camp have really been helped to develop into varsity players. Our varsity has won the league title four straight years and four straight years we have gone to the camp."
- Scott Turner, Sutter HS; Sutter, CA
2001 12-0, 2002 9-2, 2003 11-1, 2004 13-0

"The past two seasons we have had the best defense in our league. This year we set a league record for least yards per game allowed and posted six shut-outs. Going to the CDC emphasizing defense has been key to our success."
- Travis Brackett, Novato HS; Novato, CA
from 3-7 in 1999 to 13-0 in 2002, 10-3 in 2003

"We have gone to the CDC for five years and each year we continue to learn more. This camp helps us to become a unit early and enables my coaching staff to evaluate 50-70 Varsity and JV players. We highly valuse this camp and feel it is a core component of our program. We won our first league title in 20 years in 2003 and won the Section Title for the first time in 2004. One of our first team goals is to become pursuit drill champions!! Thanks Dave and staff."
- Rick Davis, Argonaut HS; Jackson, CA
from 1-9 in 1999 to 7-3 in 2002, 9-3 in 2003, 11-2 in 2004

"Tackling and pursuit are two of the most valuable skills for playing championship defense. Coach Humphers and his staff at the CDC have helped improve our program in both of these critical areas."
- Scott Donegan, Chowchilla Uion HS; Chowchilla, CA

"With the help of the coaches from the CDC, our program has learned how to run the ball as a team. Our defense was a top unit in our entire section and we reached the Division IV Semifinals playing Championship Defense. I recommend this camp to any team wanting to reach the next level."
- Bassel Faltas, Santa Cruz HS; Santa Cruz, CA

Forum: East Coast High Schools
